This Day in History: April 18-Patriot’s Day. Wisconsin Public School Observance Day to mark the date in 1775 when shots were fired in Lexington, beginning of the Revolutionary War.
On April 18, 1775, British troops march out of Boston on a mission to confiscate the American arsenal at Concord and to capture Patriot leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock, known to be hiding at Lexington. As the British departed, Boston Patriots Paul Revere and William Dawes set out on horseback from the city to warn Adams and Hancock and rouse the Minutemen.

Congratulations to the Ithaca/Weston track and field teams on a very successful meet at the Mill Haven Foods Invite at New Lisbon Saturday. Highlights include new school records by Tristen Peterson in the 100m hurdles previously held by Emma Schoen for 2nd place and Long Jump previously held by Deidra Faber since 2002 with 16’11.5” for 1st place, and also 1st in the 300m hurdles; Kaylee Peterson 1st in the 800m run, 1st for the girls 4x100m of Kaylee Miller, Kaylee Peterson, Aubri Koch, and Alivia Koch; Kaylee Peterson was 3rd in the 100m dash; Martina Olson placed 3rd in the 3200m run. The girls placed 4th overall. The boys team had several personal records and strong performances including Clayton Lee in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m, Landon Thompson in the 400m, and the boys 4x200m relay of Landon Thompson, Hewsten Garcia-Boland, Keegan Jones, and Tyler Steinmetz. The teams travel to Kickapoo tomorrow for the Lee Griffin Invitational.

This Day in History: The Ford Mustang is officially unveiled by Henry Ford II at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York, on April 17, 1964. That same day, the new car also debuted in Ford showrooms across America and almost 22,000 Mustangs were immediately snapped up by buyers. Named for a World War II fighter plane, the Mustang was one of the first vehicles that came to be known as a “pony car.” Ford sold more than 400,000 Mustangs within its first year of production, far exceeding sales expectations.

Congratulations to our Middle School track and field team on such a successful meet last night at Richland Center. All the coaches are so proud of your hard work and how it’s paying off. Every boy and girl set personal records. Highlights included Gage Buscher placing 1st in the long jump, Quintis Banker placing 1st in the 100m dash and 3rd in the high jump, Kerrick Thompson placing 3rd in the 100m hurdles. The boys team placed 5th. A special shout out to Ty Kershner for all his help!

Ithaca’s Literacy Night was held on Monday, April 10. Families were invited to a free meal of spaghetti with garlic bread and salad provided by the Ithaca PTSO. Storyteller, Kay Elmsley Weeden entertained both the students and adults with her interactive multilingual stories. Families had the opportunity to create and share their own stories. The evening concluded with each child receiving a book and a cookie. Chay Schmitt and Andrea Newkirk would like to thank Jill Plonka for preparing and serving the food, Kara and Hallie Steinmetz for assisting with set up and clean up, Emily Zorea for allowing us to use the library, and the administration and custodial staff.
