Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Take care of the whole person! Recognize signs of wellness as well as signs of unwellness, in yourself and those around you. "Research has shown that teaching the skills of kindness to students and adults, while creating a community that provides a sense of belonging, can significantly reduce the number of kids struggling with mental health." Word of the Day: Quorum, noun, refers to the smallest number of people who must be present at a meeting in order for official decisions to be made. Broadly speaking, quorum may refer to any select group. The organization's charter states that a quorum of at least seven board members must be present before any voting can take place.
This Day in History: The United States Naval Academy opens in Annapolis, Maryland, with 50 midshipmen students and seven professors. Known as the Naval School until 1850, the curriculum included mathematics and navigation, gunnery and steam, chemistry, English, natural philosophy, and French. The Naval School officially became the U.S. Naval Academy in 1850, and a new curriculum went into effect, requiring midshipmen to study at the academy for four years and to train aboard ships each summer—the basic format that remains at the academy to this day.

The Ithaca Music Boosters wishes to thank our families, community, and alumni for supporting their breakfast and lunch meals on Saturday during the 101st School Fair and Homecoming. Thanks to the dedication of our music families and the generosity of our community and alumni, the meals were a tremendous success. The funds raised at these meals help offset costs for spring band and choir trips as well as classroom needs for our music instructors, band and choir directors. If you are interested in becoming an active member of the Ithaca Music Boosters, "like" the Ithaca Band or Ithaca Choirs Facebook pages or catch updates in the daily announcements as meetings are listed there.

We all hope and pray for great weather for our events. Crop harvest, a family trip, a softball game, or a parade. Well, it doesn't always work out for the best.
When you think of Ithaca Homecoming and Fair festivities, you instantly think of “PARADE”. That’s a viable assumption UNLESS you are speaking of the Homecoming from 1973 (1974 Seniors).
The year of no parade at Ithaca!
According to legend (Thanks Margaret “Durst” Rossing) the wet weather held off long enough for Friday night activities to commence. However when the skies opened, it didn’t stop raining until the floats were unrecognizable and the parade had to be called off.
No floats, no band, no mascot, and no candy!
To quote the 1974 Ithaca Yearbook (from the fall of 1973):
“Wet, dripping mobs of people, balloons, food, disappointments, no parade, soaked floats, fun, soggy caramel apples, alumni, more food, noise, the great bonfire, the gym, where ALL the action was, wet cheerleaders, the FLAMING “I” (thanks to the Seniors!), Mr. Czeskleba’s tricky wording over the microphone, Kens first extra point, VICTORY! All the football and slow dances in the gym…Homecoming, 1973.”
By the way, the Homecoming King and Queen were Ken Manning and Lynn Faber.
Oh, and speaking of football…The Ithaca Bulldog Football team went on to a record of 7 and 2 in 1973 and they shut out opponents 5 times in those 7 wins.

Don't miss the greatest parade in all of Ithaca! All entries must be pre-registered. Floats should line up at 10am on Bluebird Lane, and the parade starts at 10:30.

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Well look no further than your very own, Ithaca! Start your morning with a Bulldog Block Challenge, then refuel with breakfast in the Community Gym from the Ithaca Music Boosters. They will also be serving a baked potato bar in the Community Gym for lunch or get a pork sandwich meal in the Commons. Check out the fair exhibits in the High School Gym or the Fair Showring. Animal judging starts at 8am, as does of the entries in the gym. Little Britches starts at 9:30 in the showring. The meat animal, cheese, and apple auction starts at 11:00am, also in the showring. New this year is the Scholastic Book Fair in the LMC prior to and following the parade until 1:30pm. Get your Ithaca Spirit Wear in the Gym from the Ithaca PTSO or have fun in the Multipurpose Room with the PTSO's Bounce House. The Famous Ithaca School Fair and Homecoming Parade starts at 10:30! Don't miss it! Mascot Races prior to the football game start at 1:00pm, and kickoff of the Ithaca Football team vs Iowa-Grant is at 1:30pm. During Halftime, Ithaca will honor the recipients of this year's Community Service Award, Mary Durst Lins (Class of 1947) and the Athletic Achievement Award, Mary Smyth Frye (Class of 1972). To cap off the festivities, the Ithaca Horse Show will be held on Sunday, October 15th at the Anderson Quarterhorse Farm 27727 County BA just north of Sextonville, starting at 10:30am. The High School Homecoming Dance will be in the Commons from 8-11pm, with Grand March at 9:30pm. Don't miss a moment of the fun!

Cheer on your own Bulldog Block Challenge runner or take on the route yourself! Check in at the Ithaca Township Garage at 6:30, get your goodie bag, and be ready to go at 7am. Virtual participants should share your pictures! Thank you for supporting the Ithaca School Foundation.
