Ithaca's high school and middle school Sources of Strength attended their annual peer leader conference. Many new members joined this year, and we are so thankful that they had the opportunity to attend along with other peer leaders who had been to other conferences!
Sources of Strength is presently partnering with thousands of elementary, middle, and high schools across the United States and Canada. The Sources of Strength vision is To Empower a Well World. They provide exceptional training and curriculum for youth and adults, utilizing a strength-based and upstream approach to mental health promotion and prevention of adverse outcomes. The Ithaca Middle and High School Sources of Strength student-led groups are advised by Jessie Stellner and Shelly Pluemer.

Word of the Day:
Armistice: temporary stopping of open acts of warfare by agreement between the opponents : TRUCE The threat of regime change in Russia—to force Putin into an armistice to preserve his regime, or to encourage others to do it—is among the ways to get Ukraine on a path toward peace. —David Remnick, The New Yorker, 3 Oct. 2023
This day in history: Celebrating Veterans Day today. Veterans Day has its origins at the end of World War I when at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the fighting ended with the signing of an armistice. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first Armistice Day, Nov. 11. The day is also known as Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth of Nations. Wilson's proclamation stated: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"

Ithaca High School's FFA recently sent a group representing their peers to the 96th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, IN.
The group stopped on their way to the convention to tour Purple Power boar stud and Danner Livestock in Chalmers, IN, thanks to the hospitality of Chris, Susan and Blake Danner. They also visited the Bluegrass Stockyards in Lexington, KY, received a tour at KESMARC (an Equine rehab center), toured Keeneland Park and the Kentucky Castle. Next up was a tour at Claiborne Farms in Paris, KY. Students learned some of the history of the farm and all about the stud farm. They were given the remarkable opportunity to pet American Thoroughbred racehorse War Front who is insured for 80 million dollars! The group then traveled to Louisville, seeing many beautiful farms and homes along the way. Farmington Plantation gave the group a warm reception where they learned the importance of the farm to Abraham Lincoln's views on slavery.
Ithaca's group arrived in Indianapolis and settled in for a full experience. Cinch Rodeo hosted World's Toughest Rodeo events exclusively for FFA students, that Ithaca was able to attend. Sessions were held in the Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Indianapolis Colts football team plays. Students from all over the United States and its territories along with advisors and their supporters totaled over 67,000! That is the capacity of the stadium. At the convention center, students experienced a diverse trade show and college fair, then dove straight into FFA Convention activities, which included many featured speakers, topics, and workshops. Wisconsin's FFA Alumni Association for the second year in a row, was awarded the Top Alumni Association in the nation. Local members of this association include Dr Rick Bockop, Section 4 Officer and generous supporter of Ithaca FFA. National FFA Secretary Jessica Herr gave an inspiring retiring address, and some of the group took advantage of a photo op with Mrs Cheryl Zimmerman, National FFA Executive Secretary.
With more than 945,988 FFA members in 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the National FFA Organization has a strong presence as the largest student-led organization in the nation. Ithaca High School is home to the oldest established FFA Chapter in Wisconsin. It is led by advisor Melissa Sprecher.

This fall, students from Ithaca's 3rd and 4th grades participated in Girls on the Run. This program combines curriculum and running to build confidence, kindness, and decision-making skills while instilling a powerful connection between physical and emotional health.
The fall season began in September and concludes in November. On Saturday, November 4, nearly 1,000 program participants in grades 3-5 from across south central Wisconsin gathered in Waunakee for the Celebratory 5K event (that's 3.1 miles!).
Congratulations to Avah Fargen, Connie Pulvermacher, Lennon Neefe, and Bristol Nielsen!
If you would like to learn more about this program and opportunities in our area, visit GOTR online at https://www.girlsontherunscwi.org or contact Lori Pulvermacher at LLPulvermacher@gmail.com.
(Also included in the photos are the running buddies and supporters of our Ithaca students!)
