Ithaca's elementary students participated in the national "Hour of Code" initiative during their weekly Library class from December 4th-8th during Computer Science Education Week. "Hour of Code" is a week-long program designed to introduce students to the basics of computer coding. In their Library curriculum, Ithaca elementary students create projects to show their learning using both digital and real-world materials. This week, students wrote basic computer algorithms using bee bot robots and resources from the Code.org website. These lessons also gave students a chance to practice being attentive to details, developing a plan to solve problems, and checking their work and making revisions as part of the learning process.

You can help AND enjoy a delicious meal! Culvers SHARE night TONIGHT from 4 to 8 PM! Join us in supporting the Ithaca School Student Council as 10% of ALL sales will be donated to the Student Council.

Word of the Day: Dexterous, adjective used to describe someone or something that has or shows great skill or cleverness. She was praised for her dexterous handling of the crisis.
This day in history: At 2:10 p.m. on December 5, 1945, five U.S. Navy Avenger torpedo-bombers comprising Flight 19 take off from the Ft. Lauderdale Naval Air Station in Florida. They never returned. Although naval officials maintained that the remains of the six aircraft and 27 men were not found because stormy weather destroyed the evidence, the story of the “Lost Squadron” helped cement the legend of the Bermuda Triangle, an area of the Atlantic Ocean where ships and aircraft are said to disappear without a trace. The Bermuda Triangle is said to stretch from the southern U.S. coast across to Bermuda and down to the Atlantic coast of Cuba and Santo Domingo.
