The first grade class has been busy exploring the world, from Mesopotamia to Egypt learning about pyramids, Pharaohs, and treasures buried deep in the earth to be found by archeologists. We are now traveling to Mexico and North America learning about Mayan culture and Native American culture. To celebrate the students made corn (maize) tortillas, colorful maya clothing and crowns. It's a great day to be a Bulldog!

The Ithaca first grade students enjoyed a fun Friday at the Black Earth Children's Museum. They explored space, veterinarian science, Native American living, spelunking, fishing and so much more. What a great day to be a Bulldog!

During the first semester, Ithaca middle school students were able to record books finished, and the class with the highest total number of books was able to choose their celebration. Sixth grade won and we celebrated with a movie and snacks.
Since January 1st, we have been recording pages read and the competition is between classes rather than grade.
The classes are grouped by class size and we will have two winning classes. One group is for classes with 12-14 students; the second group is classes with 16 kids.
This reading competition will end at spring break and we will have one more competition that runs to the last week of the school year.
Keep reading, keep learning, and keep winning!
* Special thanks to Mary Larsen, English Language Arts Teacher, Ithaca Middle School

We really do have the best students, staff, volunteers, and community! Our R.I.S.E. program is now underway. Ithaca High Schoolers team up with younger Bulldogs to offer mentorship. RISE stands for: Ready Inspire Support Encourage and our students deliver!

Our community is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pop a top! And donate to make a difference. Ronald McDonald Houses (RMHC) all over provide families a healthy and affordable housing option when children are needing treatments and care at nearby healthcare organizations. Pull tabs on aluminum cans are a major source of income for RMHC, as there is more aluminum in a tab than in a whole can!
Recently, a large donation of pull tabs was dropped off at the Madison RMHC, which was a home-away-from-home for Ithaca High School's Ben Huebsch and his family while he underwent care at UW Health American Family Children's Hospital. Since their last drop off ten years ago, Butch and Margaret Rossing, with the help of many area friends, family, and businesses, have been collecting pull tabs. This astonishing collection, weighing in at 263 pounds, was dropped off in Ben's honor. Butch and Margaret thank the many folks who made this happen, including Simpson's Tractor, American Legion Post 13, The Village Pump, and so many friends and family. Small acts make a big impact.
If you would like to collect pull tabs or contribute to RMHC in any way, browse the Madison RMHC website at https://www.rmhcmadison.org/get-involved/. Start your own pull tab collection and see how quickly your contributions can add up.

WORD OF THE DAY: connive—To connive is to secretly help someone do something dishonest or illegal. Roger suspected that his coworkers were conniving to get him fired when in reality they were planning his surprise birthday party.
THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On March 7, 1965, in Selma, Alabama, a 600-person civil rights demonstration ended in violence when marchers were attacked and beaten by white state troopers and sheriff’s deputies. The day's events became known as "Bloody Sunday."
