Play Ball! Ithaca High School junior, Ben Huebsch is in the big leagues today! If you have been following along (and many of you have!), Ben is celebrating his Make-A-Wish this weekend. He and his family traveled to Arizona to visit with the Milwaukee Brewer organization. They have been so gracious hosting him and his family, and tonight Ben will throw out the first pitch!
Keep up with Ben's trip, his path leading up to it, and future updates using his CaringBridge site. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/benhuebsch

Ithaca would like to thank Officer Czys of the Richland County Sheriff's Department. Here are some GREAT pictures from the Ithaca' Counteract Presentation with Officer Czys and the Ithaca 5th grade class, from Tuesday March 12th. The picture of the four students shows the winners of the "best skit" representing a scenario where they demonstrated what they learned in the Counteract classes.
Officer Cyz gave a presentation for the parents concerning "COUNTERACT". Mike also put on a demonstration with his police dog, Rambo.
Oh yeah, the winners ALSO received a stuffed replica of RAMBO - How cool is THAT?

WORD OF THE DAY: Hegemony: influence or control over another country, group of people, etc. The two nations have for centuries struggled for regional hegemony.
THIS DAY IN HISTORY: Julius Caesar, dictator of Rome, is stabbed to death in the Roman Senate house by 60 conspirators led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus on March 15. The day later became infamous as the Ides of March. On March 15, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson addresses a joint session of Congress to urge the passage of legislation guaranteeing voting rights for all. Johnson declares that “every American citizen must have an equal right to vote.” Johnson reminds the nation that the Fifteenth Amendment, which was passed after the Civil War, gave all citizens the right to vote regardless of race or color.

WORD OF THE DAY: Emulate: to try to be like a person or thing. The word is used especially when one is trying to equal or surpass someone in accomplishment or achievement. Younger children will often try to emulate the behavior of their older siblings.
