With the upcoming hunting seasons, many students excitedly talk about traditions and activities that abound in our communities. Ithaca Principal Kathleen Schoen proactively reached out to Lt. Mike Czys, of the Richland County Sheriff's Department, who agreed to come in and lead discussion lessons with each elementary grade level/classroom. Mrs. Ellie Czys shared a great resource "McGruff Talks to Students about Gun Safety," which Lt Mike Czys utilized on his visit. Teachers and Officer Czys reported that students were very engaged in the discussion. Safety measures at Ithaca are of high priority to administration and staff. Thank you to Mrs. Czys, Lt. Mike Czys, and the Ithaca Elementary teachers for making this a productive and valuable experience.

Students also got to put their hand washing skills to the test and see how important 20 seconds of proper hand washing with warm water and soap is. Nurse Wilson shared these tips to staying healthy with our bulldogs: getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water, being active and playing outside, and staying home when you're sick.
