ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: The Supreme Court issued a momentous ruling that clarified the way that the American legal system handled charges of discrimination. In Hernandez v. Texas, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment applied to all racial and ethnic groups facing discrimination, effectively broadening civil rights laws to include Hispanics and all other non-whites.

Royal Bank visited the Ithaca 2nd grade students recently. Teaching about savings, spending, banking and lots more. We are grateful for community leaders and supporters for helping our students learn life skills.

Congratulations to everyone who performed at the WSMA Large Ensemble Festival in Boscobel yesterday! The 7th/8th Grade Band and Choir, and the High School Choir earned a 2 rating on their performances, and High School Band earned a 1 rating. A 1 rating is the highest possible rating that can be achieved at this event. Great job, everyone!

THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On May 2, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama, more than 1,000 Black school children march through the city in a demonstration against segregation. The goal of the non-violent demonstration, which became known as the "Children’s Crusade" and "Children’s March," was to provoke the city’s civic and business leaders to agree to desegregate.

How do you talk to 2nd grade students about saving, spending, and banking AND keep their interest level HIGH? Why, you bring engaging people AND the Money bunny OF COURSE! The Richland County Bank visited the Ithaca 2nd grade students recently. Teaching about savings, spending, banking and lots more. We are grateful for community leaders and supporters for helping our students learn life skills.
Popcorn Friday this week! This week's Popcorn Friday on May 3rd is hosted by the 2nd Grade! Cost is 50 cents per bag, limit 2 per student.
On April 30th Ithaca held a CAREER EXPLORATION EVENT. Students were able to explore careers and the pathway to those careers. The interaction between the vendors and students made for an awesome day of learning about careers and pathways to those careers. Ithaca's 8th Grade is FULL of engineers!
8th Grade Science has been studying the differences between potential and kinetic energies, and how they both play a role in motion. To put these principles into practice, teams are designing racers out of recycled materials that can ONLY be powered by the potential energy of stretched out rubber bands.
On Thursday, teams will be competing for titles in both speed and distance. Stay tuned for images of the completed designs, as well as team rankings!
Principals are some of the hardest working, yet can be underappreciated within the education system. Without them, a school would not operate on a daily basis. They set the academic tone by encouraging students to thrive. They implement their vision through dedication and determination to provide a successful and positive environment for students and teachers.
Today is National School Principals' Day and we honor Mr. Greg Herbst and Mrs. Kathleen Schoen. Without their guidance, leadership, and loyalty Ithaca would not be the school it is today. Thank you!

Last night the Ithaca/Weston High School track and field team competed at the annual Fennimore Invitational. Top results from the girls events are Kaylee Miller placed 3rd in the high jump, 9th in the 100m and 5th in the 200m; Tristen Peterson placed 6th in the long jump, 5th in the 100m hurdles and 6th in the 300m hurdles; Lia Puig placed 9th in the pole vault; Aubri Koch placed 4th in the triple jump; and the girls 4X100m relay of Aubri Koch, Tristen Peterson, Maggie Kershner, and Kaylee Miller placed 4th. In the boys events, top finishers were Clayton Lee with 2nd in the 1600m and 1st in the 3200m and the boys 4X800m relay of Braysen Garcia-Boland, Conner Montes, Kerrick Thompson, and Sam Jones placed 9th. Congratulations to Clayton Lee for breaking the school record in the 1600m run with a time of 4:43.34. The record was previously held by his brother Ryan Lee set in 2021. The teams next compete this Friday at the River Valley Alumni Invitational in Spring Green and Saturday at the Ginger Morrey Invitational in Muscoda.

Today Ithaca will host a Career Exploration Day for grades 6th-12th. The Sophomore and Junior classes will meet with businesses in the gym during the 2nd hour. Freshmen and Seniors will meet during the 3rd hour and all middle school students will meet during the 4th hour. Looking forward to a great Exploration Day about Career Pathways and job opportunities.

Ithaca Middle School Sources of Strength has started a "You Matter" campaign to highlight that ALL members of the Ithaca community matter. This banner has positive messaging for all, as well as additional messages for students to take as they need, or write out their own to leave for others. Positive messages have been left on all Middle School lockers, as part of the Middle School campaign. Students can keep them for themselves, or share with someone who could use some encouragement.
