Members of the Ithaca High School Choir traveled to New York over spring break. They had a very busy itinerary with seeing 2 Broadway shows - "Lion King" and "Aladdin", and an entertaining performance by Blue Man Group. They toured the Tenement Museum, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the 911 Museum. They saw many sites as they had a guided tour of New York and spent time shopping in Times Square. Mrs. Behrens is very proud of how the students represented Ithaca and would like to thank them and the chaperones for a wonderful and fun trip! Ithaca's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) advanced 11 of the students 16 participants from the Regional Leadership Conference to the State Leadership Conference (SLC) in Madison on March 28 and 29. Ithaca's FBLA students, like many students at small schools, have the opportunity and drive to actively participate in many wonderful organizations. Scheduling conflicts occasionally force students to make extremely difficult decisions. Unfortunately for many Ithaca FBLA members, the SLC took place while Ithaca High School was on Spring Break and the Ithaca Choir was exploring New York City. Students who attended the 2022 FBLA SLC were Will Burnley in Organizational Leadership and Emma Coy in Introduction to social media. This was the first in-person SLC since 2019, so it was an incredible experience for the attending students. A huge shot out to the Reedsburg FBLA students and their Advisor, Connie Jump, who were incredibly helpful and welcoming to our small group and made the conference even more fun. As a former chaperone of the Ithaca Choir Trip, Ithaca FLBA advisor, Katie Burnley, encouraged and fully supported the state qualifiers to go on the New York Trip and have a wonderful time. The traveling students were missed at the conference, but we know that they created memories that will last a lifetime, just like we did at the conference. Only one FBLA SLC Qualifiers /Choir Traveler was a senior, so hopefully, all the other students will qualify and attend next year. Students who didn't qualify for SLC in their event also gave up the opportunity to participate in the conference by attending workshops and award ceremonies. Ithaca FBLA SLC Qualifiers/Choir Travelers: Erica Steinmetz, Elise Newkirk, Kailey Newkirk, Alivya Young, Alana Nelson, Tristen Peterson, Carissa Willis, and Landon Thompson. Additional Ithaca FBLA members/Choir Travelers: Josie Laue, Lexi Stowell, David Fargen, Danny Feryance, Brooklyn Freestone, and Emma Schoen. Holly King also qualified for SLC but is not pictured.

On April 4th each year, National School Librarian Day recognizes the professionals who keep the school library in working order. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized. They are also dedicated to helping our children (you) find the resources they need to keep learning. School librarians are the people who create an environment where students can learn every day of the year. Their work is an impressive accomplishment. The school librarians provide guidance and expose our youth not only to texts, print media, and literature but to digital resources and technology, too. These resources also connect them to libraries around the world. A school librarian’s ability to manage scores of media and a school full of students with numerous projects and schedules astounds us. A loud and proud shout out to our school librarian--Mrs. Emily Zorea. Mrs. Zorea is the epitome of a professional, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable librarian who knows and loves each of you and thoroughly enjoys sharing her knowledge of literary, informational and technological resources. Each student and adult is invited to stop by the library today and personally thank Mrs. Zorea for all she has and will continue to do for our school. Mrs. Zorea, we are so fortunate to have you at Ithaca!!

April is Alcohol Awareness month. The Partners for Prevention Coalition is encouraging parents to have conversations with their child about alcohol. Wisconsin's Small Talks campaign will be implemented in Richland County from April to mid-August. Outdoor banners, yard signs, radio ads, fridge locks, tip sheets, and posters will be distributed throughout the county. We're helping you answer your kids’ toughest questions about underage drinking during April #AlcoholAwarenessMonth. You can’t always prevent your child from being offered alcohol, but you can help them be prepared if it happens. Brainstorm and practice different responses, such as “No, thanks! I have a game tomorrow.” or “Thanks, but I want to keep a clear head tonight.” Get more talk tips here: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/small-talks/start-talking.htm #SmallTalksWI
