For immediate release on Wednesday, January 15, 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
After much deliberation, I have made the decision to cancel classes for students in grades PK-5 on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
The impetus for this decision is the escalating number of students who have been absent from school this week for any combination of influenza A, strep throat, norovirus, and undiagnosed flu-like symptoms. The number of absences has disproportionately affected the Elementary School, as in one class alone, ten students are absent from school for the reasons previously mentioned.
In the students’ absence, our custodial crew will conduct a thorough cleaning of all classrooms in grades PK-5 on Thursday, January 16. All classrooms in grades 6-12 will be thoroughly cleaned on Friday, January 17.
Again, the cancellation of classes is only for students in grades PK-5; grades 6-12 will have classes on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
We understand that in some cases, older school-aged kids are needed at home to watch their younger siblings when school is canceled. If that is the case and a contingency plan is unavailable, please call the school office in the morning (608) 585-2311 and communicate that fact to the school secretary; the older student’s absence will be excused under these circumstances.
School buses will run their regular routes at their normal times.
Parents/guardians who normally send their children to the daycare, please note that the daycare will be open from 7:30 AM through its normal closing time.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and flexibility while we work to ensure a healthy school environment.
Respectfully,
Greg Herbst, District Administrator
Respetuosamente,
Greg Herbst, Administrador del Distrito

What an experience! Talented Ithaca High School senior, Ben Huebsch performed in the 75th Annual Dorian Vocal Festival, held January 12-13 at Luther College.
This two day event is open to juniors and seniors from the tri-state area who have been nominated by their directors. Ben was nominated by Sandi Johnson with the help of Mr. Herbst and Mrs. Thompson. While at the festival, students had the opportunity to sing with a 950 person choir, rehearse with the Luther College music faculty, and participate in sectionals with singers from hundreds of schools around the Midwest.
Congratulations Ben! And as one of the directors at the festival stated, thank you to all our families and staff who encourage and make music possible for our students!
