Fellowship of Christian Athletes would just like to take a minute to say thank you, Ithaca students! Last night at Fields of Faith YOU represented our school with such great character! You were all so very humble and kind. You displayed great leadership, we laughed, we cried and it was a very memorable evening! We had over 150 attend and lives were encouraged, inspired and changed! Thank you for being so amazing!
The Ithaca PTSO's 4th Annual Trunk or Treat will be held on Friday, October 28 in the North parking lot. You may decorate trunks from 4:30-5 PM and Trunk or Treating will be from 5-6 PM. This Day in History: On October 11, 2002, former President Jimmy Carter wins the Nobel Peace Prize "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." Carter, a peanut farmer from Georgia, served one term as U.S. president between 1977 and 1981. One of his key achievements as president was mediating the peace talks between Israel and Egypt in 1978. After he left office, Carter and his wife Rosalynn created the Atlanta-based Carter Center in 1982 to advance human rights and alleviate human suffering. Since 1984, they have worked with Habitat for Humanity to build homes and raise awareness of homelessness.

Congratulations to the Ithaca Horse Team on their riding and showing at the District 3 WIHA show held in Deerfield this past weekend. Team members are Talena Sprecher, Josie Laue, Arianna Louis, Maggie Kershner, Annabeth Sprecher, and Ellie Otto. Next they will be competing at the State WIHA Show on Oct 28-30 at the New Holland Pavilion, Alliant Energy Center, in Madison.

This Day in History: On October 10, 1944, 800 Romani children, including more than a hundred boys between 9 and 14 years old, are systematically murdered. Auschwitz was really a group of camps, designated I, II and III. There were also 40 smaller "satellite" camps. It was at Auschwitz II, at Birkenau, established in October 1941, that the SS created a complex, monstrously orchestrated killing ground: 300 prison barracks; four "bathhouses," in which prisoners were gassed; corpse cellars, and cremating ovens; in 1845 the United States Naval Academy opens in Annapolis, Maryland, with 50 midshipmen students and seven professors. Volleyball: Girls Varsity Reserve at Iowa-Grant
The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) announced they are hosting a free online student loan debt relief workshop on October 18. The workshop will help student loan borrowers prepare for the end of the public service loan forgiveness waiver on October 31 and the end of the federal student loan payment pause on December 31.
“With student loan payments resuming in January 2023, it is more important than ever for borrowers to explore their student loan repayment options and make a plan for repayment today,” said DFI Secretary-designee Cheryll Olson-Collins. “Borrowers should take time now while payments are still paused to look into repayment options such as income-driven repayment plans, which may lower monthly payments, and check their eligibility for student loan forgiveness. Not waiting until the last minute to make a plan is important and will help ensure a smooth return to repayment.”
“As student loan payments resume, borrowers should watch for dishonest offers from debt relief scammers on loan forgiveness or savings from consolidation,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. “Borrowers with questions should attend this informational workshop to learn more about the many resources consumers can access without paying any fees.”

Using Savi’s tool may help borrowers reduce their monthly payments and optimize their repayment plans. On average, users of this tool save $156 each month and have a lifetime savings of $28,308. Student loan borrowers can find additional free repayment resources on DFI’s LookForwardWI.gov website.
DFI and DATCP encourage student loan borrowers to create a repayment plan now to help ensure a smooth return to repayment and to beware of fraudsters taking advantage of this transition period. Borrowers with questions are encouraged to call the Wisconsin Student Loan Help Hotline at (833) 589-0750 or contact Federal Student Aid. Student loan borrowers who have been the victim of a scam should report it by filing a complaint online, emailing datcphotline@wisconsin.gov, or calling DATCP’s Consumer Protection Hotline at (800) 422-7128.

Only one year later, true to Kennedy's fears, the world hovered on the brink of full-scale nuclear war when the Cuban Missile Crisis erupted over the USSR's placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba. During the tense 13-day crisis, some Americans prepared for nuclear war by buying up canned goods and completing last-minute work on their backyard bomb shelters.

This week K-5th grade learned Digital Citizenship skills in Mrs. Zorea's Library classes. Younger students learned about how to stay safe online when using a device. Older grades learned how to evaluate what healthy media choices look like in their lives. 5th graders created their own media plan to identify what media and non-media choices help make them feel healthy and balanced.
