On Friday, January 31, five 6th graders attended the CESA 3 Improv workshop with Ann Dolan at Lancaster. They learned how to work together, establish the scene, and perform a story with a beginning, middle, and end. These students are also competing in the regional Destination Imagination contest on Feb. 29 in the Improv challenge category.

The PTSO, in conjunction with the Middle School Student Council, is offering free-will offering babysitting for Valentine's Day - Friday, Feb. 14, from 5:30-8 PM. Please return the filled out form with donation (if donating) to your child's teacher by Monday, February 10. All proceeds go to fund Middle School Student Council activities.
There will be a popcorn sale this Friday, Feb. 7. Cost is 50 cents a bag, limit 2 bags per student please. Proceeds this week will go to the Kindergarten class. Middle and High School students: we will come around to the classrooms to sell at Attack time with teacher permission.
Congratulations goes out to Talena Sprecher for taking 1st place at last night's Creed Speaking event at the FFA District Speaking contest held in Boscobel. Talena now qualifies to compete in the Sectional Speaking contest in Shullsburg on March 25th.

Congratulations to Aaron and Ilana Bloczynski who did a fantastic job representing Ithaca at the West Sectional Spelling Bee at Weston on January 29. Ilana placed 4th in the competition and Aaron placed 2nd out of 14 students from Weston, Wauzeka, Seneca, North Crawford, Bluff View Prairie du Chien and Prairie Catholic. We are proud of you!
Great job to the 7 students who represented Ithaca at the Middle School Science Quiz Bowl competition at UW Madison this past Saturday. 21 teams from around Wisconsin participated in the contest. Competing on Ithaca team 1 were Aaron Bloczynski, Micah Salisbury, and Caleb Birkrem. Team 2 members were Ilana Bloczynski, Trista Pluemer, Maggie Gschwind, and Allison Durst.
Reminder: Middle School Student Council will be running their annual Valentine Gram Fundraiser through Jan. 31st. Order forms are located outside room 204 or in the office. All completed orders and payments must be turned in by THIS Friday, Jan. 31st. to Mrs. Hilby via mailbox, in person, or on her desk. Valentine Grams will be delivered on February 14. Today marks the 34th anniversary of the Challenger Shuttle explosion that took the lives of seven crew members including teacher Christa McAuliffe.
Pardon me for a personal reflection. As a 4th grader and like so many students across the nation, we had been prepped by our teachers for this moment. We studied the aeronautics program, reviewed the lessons Mrs. McAuliffe would be conducting from space, talked about the training she endured to become a civilian and female astronaut! Her selection made it seem that anyone of us young people could choose and do anything.
As other classes joined us in our classroom, we huddled close to the roll-cart TV. We joined Mission Control in the countdown... BLAST OFF! The cheers were loud and excited!
And then 73 seconds later it all changed.
Our youth today have become desensitized now to horrendous video, but we had never seen something like that. It was very awful to watch and experience as a young person. Now, I can admire the way our teachers gathered their emotions and talked to us, reassured us, and were honest with us.
It is often said that heroes walk among us. How very true. Christa McAuliffe has become an example of that for my generation. She provided us with a public example of the lengths that educators of any type go through to inspire learning and find connections to ALL of their students. Figuratively and at times literally, educators give their lives to young people.
In honor of Christa McAuliffe, remember the dedication of one or more of your "teachers". And teachers come in many forms! If you have the opportunity to do so, thank them.

The sledding hill was kind of a byproduct of outside landscaping leftovers, and yet a wonderful one! The hill is an exciting focal spot whenever it's open. Yesterday, the older elementary students were caught with big smiles and laughs enjoying the sledding hill.
Congratulations are in order for Ithaca High School and Middle School students who earned placement to the 2nd Quarter Honor Roll. Hard work, well done!
This past Saturday there were 19 middle school and high school students that participated in Honors Choir at Mineral Point. They spent the day working on difficult music with other excellent musicians throughout our music conference. Mrs. Niemeyer is very proud of their representation of Ithaca, especially because of their positive attitude, respect, and beautiful singing!
