Third graders had a lot of fun this week doing Thanksgiving related activities. On Tuesday, they did wheels of thankfulness, a turkey craft, and followed all that up with creating pumpkin catapults! With a partner they were given five minutes to plan and 15 minutes to construct their catapults. They only had 5 popsicle sticks, 5 rubber bands, plastic spoon, and tape for their materials! It was so much fun to see them all critically think about how to make their pumpkin launch the furthest! Wednesday revolved around the book called “Balloons Over Broadway”. They first had to collaborate with their teammates to come up with a balloon design, then sketch out that design before constructing it! Once constructed, they were attached to a BeeBot and they had to code their balloon through a mapped out parade route. Lots of learning, fun, and laughter had this week in 3rd grade!
Much to be thankful for! In a building where 4K through 12th grade students learn, there are many opportunities to learn together! This week, the first graders enjoyed a Thanksgiving Spanish lesson from the high school Spanish class. They enjoyed a Spanish read aloud, bingo, and a color by number.

Ithaca Public Schools wishes everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. We are thankful for our students and families, staff and administration, and our community.

Ithaca Elementary and Middle School focus on what they are thankful for, and highlight Gratitude as a Source of Strength. Sources of Strength encourages students, and people of all ages, to recognize and lean into those people, places, and practices that lift them up and give them strength when they need it. More strength focuses to come....

Word of the Day: ransack to search for something in a way that causes disorder or damage. My sister ransacked my room looking for the shoes I had borrowed (and returned).
This day in history: John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated in 1963 while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible. As the vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. He was 46.
